Aim: To train the students in the formulation and planning of an engineering project. To obtain experience with a rational approach to research and development carried out in a group. |
Contents: The project starts at the end of the 14-week term. The participants are divided into groups and each group chooses a specific task (see the list below). On the basis of an introduction to fundamental acoustic concepts and supported by available literature each group creates a plan for and a description of the task ahead. This written plan must include a timetable and must be approved before the 3-week term begins. During these three weeks a PC-program is constructed for the sake of controlling a measurement set-up in order to carry out a specific acoustic measurement. At the end of the project a complete report is written.
Examples of measurements: Measurement of the frequency response of a loudspeaker. Measurement of the electrical impedance of a loudspeaker as a function of frequency. Measurement of the threshold of hearing. Measurement of the reverberation time in a room. Calculation of vibrations in a beam. |
