Aim: To give the students a thorough knowledge of properties of building materials.
Contents: 1) General materials properties.
2) Moisture in concrete: Moisture fixation, moisture transport by water pressure, diffusion and capillary suction, drying calculations, critical values for moisture contents. Examples of damage on plastics, wood, concrete and steel, moisture measurements, building care.
3) Materials mechanics. Overview lectures.
4) Corrosion. Theory, potentials, prevention, facades, steel for reinforcement.
5) Polymers. Structure and application, gluing, sealants, materials for thermal insulation, surface treatment, environmental problems.
6) Ecological building practice.
