Aim: To give the students an understanding of the behaviour and characteristics of different bridge types. |
Contents: The course deals with bridges in steel and concrete. Characteristics of the different bridge types. Structural behaviour, overall design and constructional aspects. The emphasis is laid on the synthesis of combining the variety of functional requirements to arrive at suitable and efficient structures. Application of different bridge types and structural materials. Analytical methods are treated only if they are directly related to a specific bridge type, whereas general analytical methods for design of beams, frames, arches and cables are assumed to be known beforehand. |
