Aim: To give the participants a deeper insight into dynamics by studying more types of structural elements than in the basic course, by the study of random excitations and by introducing non-linear structural response. Furthermore, it is also the intention to give the students insight into the effects of seismic actions, which in many regions is the most dominating action to be considered in design of structures. It is the aim to give the participants a basic understanding of the response to earthquakes and of the importance of the local geology. |
Contents: Column vibrations. Vibration of Timoshenko beams. Vibrations of rectangular plates. Vibrations of non-linear systems. Isolation by means of rubber bearings. Vibrations of viscoelastic beams. Random vibrations of single degree of freedom structures, of multi degree of freedom structures and of beams. Earthquakes, magnitude and intensity. Internal waves and surface waves. Seismicity. Soil liquefaction. Dynamic analysis of structures under seismic actions. |
