Danish title: Antenner

Type: Å, Language: EEE
Credit points: 7,5 point
Previous course: C4836
Offered by: Department of Electromagnetic Systems (EMI)
No credit points with: C4836
Prerequisite: 48110/C4810
Recommended semester: 7th semester
Scope and form: Lectures, exercises, lectures from guest speakers and/or field trip.
Examination: Approval of compulsory activities is a prerequisite for taking part in the ex. Oral exam. (13 point scale )
Remarks: This course gives a good background for special courses and master thesis projects in the area of antennas and electromagnetics.
Contact person: Mikael Dich, EMI, Building 348, Tel. +45 4525 3865MIDI@emi.dtu.dk
Aim: To give the participants an understanding of the principles behind how antennas operate. The principles are argued on electromagnetic theory. In addition, the participants are given experience with professional tools for the analysis and design of antennas. The participants are given practical insight by carrying out measurements.
Contents: Electromagnetic sources. The field from sources. Reciprocity. The method of mirrors. The equivalence principle. Dipoles and wire antennas. Aperture antennas. Horn antennas. Reflector antennas. Array theory. Slotted waveguide antennas. Microstrip antennas. Analysis- and design methods for one or more of the above types of antennas will be investigated. The compulsory exercise on the design of an antenna must be completed with a report and an oral presentation. This exercise and the antenna measurements are carried out over a number of afternoons.
