Aim: To give the student a basic understanding of the theory of elasticity and the related energy principles, and based on this, to obtain practical experience in stress and strain calculations for solids and structures of isotropic as well as anisotropic materials, say laminates.
Contents: Stress, strain and energy from a conceptional point of view. Constitutive models for anisotropic materials and the rotational transformations for these. Transformations from the three-dimensional world to two- and one-dimensional models. Energy principles from a survey point of view. Theory of laminated plates. More detailed application of rectangular plates. Torsion of cylindrical bars. Sensitivity analysis for elastic strain energy. Power law non-linear elasticity with solution procedures.
