Aim: To familiarize the student with the basis of modern shell theory and the use of tensor analysis in this field. To enable the student to utilize recent technical literature with tensor formulation. |
Contents: Elements of tensor calculus. Geometry of the shell. Kinematical conditions. Statical conditions, total and incremental forms. The membrane state. Pure flexure. Constitutive equations for material and shell, incremental forms. The boundary value problem. Principle of virtual work. Shell elements with C0- and C1-compatibility. |
