Aim: To give an overview of the physical principles which underlie the structure and behaviour of living material. |
Contents: Atoms, molecules and interatomic interactions. The mechanical properties of biological materials. The atomic conformation of biopolymers. The physical basis of protein structure and function. The physical properties of biological membranes. Biological energy. Diffusion in biological systems. The interaction of biological structures with radiation. Photosynthesis. The physical basis for muscle function and nerve impulse transmission. The structure and function of the brain. Neural networks. |
