Aim: The aim is to give the student a basic understanding of the classical physics of spatially extended solids, fluids, and gasses. The course can be taken as an independent part of the education or as basis for more specialized studies in elasticity, hydrodynamics, and fluid dynamics. |
Contents: Based on fundamental mechanics and thermodynamics the mathematical model that govern the behaviour of solids and fluids are formulated. Introduction of a general stress concept. Deformation analysis and elasticity. Anisotropic materials. Navier-Stokes equation. Viscous flow. Potential flow. Vortex motion. Laminar and turbulent flow. Surfacewaves. Soundwaves in solids and fluids. |
