| Aim: To enable the students to understand and apply fundamental principles and computational methods used in structural analysis of elastic beam and frame structures. |
| Contents: Plane stress and strain fields, Mohr's circle, equilibrium and compatibility, Hookes law. Elastic beams, strain and stress distribution, Navier's formula, Grashofs formula, principle of virtual work, deflections. Torsion, strain and stress distribution. Statically indeterminate structures, the force method, the displacement method. The finite element method for plane frames. |
