Credit points: 5 point
Previous course: 64201
Offered by: Department of Buildings and Energy (IBE)
No credit points with: 64201/C6401
Recommended semester: 1st - 4th semester
Scope and form: Lectures and group0 work.
Examination: Written exam (13 point scale )
Contact person: Carsten Rode, IBE, Building 118, Tel. +45 4525 1852
Aim: To give the students knowledge of heat and moisture transport in building structures, and a knowledge of indoor and outdoor climatic conditions as basis for comprehension of the thermal and moisture related performances required of the components that form part of the building envelope.
To teach about heat transport mechanisms in general, for insulation materials specifically, and in relation to the heat balance of windows.
To enable the students to carry out a computational evaluation of whether a given building and its components fulfill the thermal as well as the moisture related performance requirements.
To enable the students to determine the appropriate type and amount of insulation from energy related, economic, technical, and hygienic perspectives.
Contents: Heat transmission through building components. Heat transmission at surfaces of buildings. The influence of the indoor and outdoor climates on the heat loss from buildings. Properties of thermal insulation materials. Thermal insulation from energy related, technical, hygienic, and economic perspectives. Solar influx through windows, and screening of these. Calculation of energy demand in buildings. Elementary moisture transport theory (diffusion). Principles for composition of the building envelope.
