Aim: Introduction of a number of fundamental concepts in mechanical physics, which are important for the understanding of other courses and in professional engineering applications. Training in analysing physical situations, setting up appropiate equations and solving them. Special emphasis is put on the development of a critical, scientific approach when applying general formulas and methods to specific situations. |
Contents: Kinematics. Relative velocity. Work and power. Conservation of linear and angular momentum. Centrifugal force. Frames of reference with linear acceleration and rotation. Conservative and nonconservative forces. Potential energy. Conservation of energy. Kinetic energy for systems of particles. Collisions. Moment of inertia. Kinetic energy of rotation of rigid body. Simple harmonic motion. |
