Aim: To give the students knowledge about water pollution problems and possible methods for their solution or prevention, to such an extent, that they will be able to - compose monitoring programs for registration of type and extent of pollution - evaluate the effect of effluent contaminants on the environment - take part in the design and construction of purification plants for domestic and industrial wastewater.
Contents: Laws, regulations and guidelines for the protection of the environment. Low- and Nonwaste Technology (Cleaner Technologies). The classes, sources, amounts and distribution of polluting compounds, and their effect on the environment. Physical, chemical and biological methods for pollution control. Application of general design parameters, for the design of industrial and domestic wastewater purification plants. Alternative low-tech water treatment.
