Aim: a) to give an understanding of the properties of the most important materials among metals, ceramics and plastics based on composition, structure and treatment, b) to introduce processes by which materials corrode, c) to train the use of handbooks and tables. |
Contents: Properties of materials and testing methods. How the microstructure of the materials govern the mechanical properties. Phases and phase changes. Properties of one phase and multiphase systems. Materials of importance to engineers. The principles of developing materials with specific properties. The use of handbooks and tables. |
