Aim: a) to give knowledge of alloys, b) to give an understanding of practical corrosion phenomena and knowledge of the control of corrosion of metals, c) to give knowledge of chemical attack on other materials, d) and to train the students in understanding optimal choice of construction materials considering deterioration and economy through the use of handbooks and knowledge centers. |
Contents: The content of the course is a presentation of metallurgical aspects of stainless steels and other selected metals, of corrosion phenomena and electrochemical methods of measuring and controlling corrosion. Further an introduction of methods to corrosion, inspection and protection and of chemical attack on plastics. Practical examples of selection of materials in connection with brief discussions of the main groups of materials already mentioned in Materials Science I. |
