Aim: To give the students a fundamental knowledge of highway- and traffic engineering. |
Contents: The future traffic volume on a planned road is estimated. The appropriate road type and design speed are selected. Required sight distances are calculated. A rough design of the cross section and the horizontal and vertical alignment is finalized. A preliminary pavement design is performed based on laboratory tests. Earthwork quantities are calculated. The costs and benefits of the road project are assessed including the costs of expected traffic accidents. |
