Aim: To give the students a basic knowledge of technical surveying, introducing the methods and instruments used. The aim is to make the students able to decide which instruments, methods and computation programmes are needed to secure a given accuracy, partly in connection with the setting out of a work of construction, and partly in a survey in connection with mapping or control work. Stress is put on control, evaluation of quality and visualisation of the outcome.
Contents: Guidance on and exercise with instruments for the measurement of angles and distances, levelling instruments and satellite measurement instruments (GPS). Exercises with different methods of surveying and setting out: triangulation, polygon measurements, intersection, resection, tachometry and measurement of points with GPS. The students will set out points and angles and map buildings and roads. The course will include one or more larger tasks with a survey and a setting out for use in producing a digital technical map of either a landscape or a built-up area. Different programs for computing survey data and for digital mapping (GIS) are introduced and used in treating the students¿ own data.
