Aim: To give the students an insight into the wide range of unfamilliar problems that may confront road engineers from industrialised countries working in the third world.
Contents: Development theory and development aid. Highway planning. Project appraisal. The world Bank HDM-Model. Traffic characteristics. Drainage in the tropics. Tropical soils. Pavement design. Construction contract and supervision. Labour-based methods. Maintenance operation and management. Institutional strengthening and training.
