Aim: To provide the student with the skills to collect and analyze geological data for 3-D reconstructions of reservoir and aquifer bodies and their seals, to assess the significance of geological data, to interpret subsurface data in terms of 3-D facies models and to reconstruct and interpret the sedimentary fill of a basin |
Contents: Geological maping of an area of about 3 by 5 km, preparation of the lithostratigraphy by reconstructing the succession of sediments, analysis of depositional sequences (identification of bounding surfaces), sedimentology (classification of sediments, description and interpretation of sedimentary facies), structural geological analysis (mapping of faults, folds and thrusts, identification of tectonic phases, 3-D reconstruction of geological structures), basin analysis (the reconstruction of the basin history), reservoir (aquifer) characterization and source rock identification |
