Aim: To give an introduction to the theory of mass- and charge transport, chemical kinetics, and the physical chemistry of macromolecules and macromolecular aggregates. The aim of the laboratory exercises is to support the understanding of the theoretical concepts and to present some techniques of measurement. |
Contents: Lecture: Mass and charge transport-diffusion and electrolytic conductivity. Reaction kinetics: Reaction rate and its temperature dependence, order of reaction, stationarity, consecutive and parallel reactions. Collision theory for gas-phase reactions. Adsorption and heterogeneous catalysis. Macromolecules: Polymers and biopolymers, structure, stabilizing forces, thermodynamics, transport phenomena. Macromolecular aggregates: Interfaces, surfactants, micelles, lipid membranes. Structural liquids and liquid crystals. Laboratory exercises: Electrochemistry, reaction kinetics, macromolecules and thermodynamics.
