| Aim: To give the students an insight into the potential applications of microbial genetics in industry, agriculture and medicine; to enable students to read the pertaining scientific literature. |
| Contents: Introduction to recombinant DNA technology, its tools, organisms and host/vector systems; safety/containment matters; gene structure; regulation of genetic engineering; mechanisms of protein secretion: gene banks; specific applications regarding biological containment vaccines and diagnostics; transgenic plants; prospects in these areas. |
