Aim: To give the student some advanced analytical and numerical techniques for the treatment of partial differential equations from physics and engineering science. |
Contents: Analytical part: Reimann invariants for hyperbolic systems. Perturbation theory for time-dependent problems, including multiple-scale expansions. Modulational instability.
Numerical part: The spectral method, with emphasis on Chebyshev collocation. ADI-methods for 2-D and 3-D parabolic equations. The finite element method for the Navier-Stokes equations. |
