Aim: To give the students and understanding of the structure, dynamics, energy and mass flow of natural ecosystems and to introduce them to working methods that are used in applied ecology. Through this the course aims to give the engineering student and understanding of concepts such as recipient quality, nature restoration etc. as the foundation for Danish environmental protection. |
Contents: The boundaries , structure and dynamics of ecosystems. This includes the population and community structure of ecosystems as well as the importance of the interplay between biotic and abiotic factors for energy exchange, natural production, nutrient exchange, water balance etc. Typical examples of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and present levels of pollution are dealt with, Danish cases taking a prominant position. Emphasis is laid upon their loading and changes that have occurred through their use as recipients for waste water, diffuse loads and wear. |
