Aim: To enable the students to analyze mechanical and thermal processes and to evaluate accuracy of the analysis. The course will provide a basic understanding of the processes as well as focus on conditions connected with the choice of process, forming steps, workpiece geometry, machine and tools. |
Contents: a) Methods of theoretical analysis in metal working processes e.g. upper bound analysis, slip line analysis, mouldfilling, membranestretching, inlet and feeding design, after feeding.
b) Analysis of processes within the area of cold and hot forging, extrusion, extrusion of plastics, casting and welding. Product design and materials testing.
c) Fundamentals of the teoretical methods which gives the basis for the theoretical analysis: yield criteria, flow route, strain hardening characteristics, thermal history, micro-structures.
d) Three exercises in the laboratory to illustrate the theoretical subjects.
e) Weekly written exercises |
