| Aim: To present the most important physical mechanisms and theoretical and practical results regarding flows and mixing processes in lakes, estuaries, and the ocean. |
| Contents: Stratified flows of miscible and immiscible liquids: salt water wedges, dense bottom currents, oil on water. Transport of dissolved matter in stratified flows: turbulent mixing, entrainment, free and forced convection (including diffusors). Wind-driven currents in lakes. Man's influence on the water quality in the Baltic Sea. Turbulent diffusion and dispersion of dissolved matter in natural streams and in the ocean. |
