Aim: To enable the students to design and lay out basic digital circuits and standard structures in MOS technology, with such a degree of proficiency that the circuits exploit the potential of the technology (area, speed, power). (2) To provide participants with knowledge on implementation of basic analog circuit blocks in MOS technology.
Contents: Basic MOS transistor circuit configurations and their characterization (DC-transfer characteristic, noise margin, etc.). The fabrication process for MOS circuits: masks, design rules and electrical parameters.
Design and layout of digital MOS circuits: combinational circuits, registers and standard structures (RAM, ROM, PLA, etc.). Layout strategies. One and two phase clocking. Timing analysis and optimization of MOS circuits. CAD tools for layout and simulation.
Basic analog circuit configurations, and issues relating to their implementation in MOS processes for digital circuits (noise, body effect, nonlinearity etc.). Realization of resistors, precision capacitors and switches.
