Aim: To provide the students with a view of the international debate on technology ao. concerning the riving forces behind and the consequences of technological change. To establish the ground for the students to understand and discuss the possibilities for influencing technological change with a special emphasis on technology policy strategies and different societal interests.
Contents: A range of different views on the concept of technology is presented: Ao. classical humanistic and anthropocentric and science centred perceptions of technology. Based on considerations on philosophy of technology, different issues will be highlighted: The role of the engineer related to debates on technological rationality, the productive forces of technology and visions of societal development, technology critique and demands for control of technology and the role of technology assessment in a historical perspective.
