Aim: To develop a capacity to use social science theories about development and transfer of technology to developing countries. To analyse concrete projects where a transfer of technology has taken place in order to prepare engineering students to work in interdisciplinary teams in developing countries. |
Contents: This course explores the relationship between technology and society in developing countries on the basis of concrete development programs and projects. The emphasis is placed on gaining insight into the various studies which are carried out during the project cycle. Major topics are: identification of local population in the development process, project planning and management, and various actor's role in project implementation and results. An important component of the course consists of group work where cases are analyzed according to suggestions and supervision of the teacher, including activities such as theoretical analysis, collection of emperical material or inteviews with relevant persons. |
