Contents: The purpose of the course is to intorduce the participants to formulation of dynamic process models for a specific purpose, e.g. to gain knowledge or to perform advanced process control. The course introduces linear and nonlinear dynamic models for chemical processes which are applicable for process control.

The course is formed around the model formulation cycle, where established knowledge is introduced and research areas are pinpointed. The model applications focus upon control purposes. Upon this basis model classes and experimental planning is intorduced. From experimental data unknown model parameters and their uncertainty estimation is introduced. Methods for model
validation against unknown data are given. Finally the model can be tested through simulation for its application purpose.
The subject matters in the modelling cycle are introduced upon a theoretical basis, but emphasis is given to practical application. The methodologies are exercised using experimental process plant data, thus the course develops kemometric skills in utilizing experimental data.
