Aim: The course gives an introduction of advanced topics in semiconductor physics and technology, e.g., semiconductor microstructures and nanoscale structures. A physical understanding, based on quantum mechanics, of the properties of these structures is emphasized.
The course serves as an introduction to experimental and theoretical Masters' projects at MIC. |
Contents: 1. Electronic structure of heterostructures, quantum wells, quantum wires, and quantum dots. 2. Tunneling 3. The Boltzmann equation and mobility in parallel transport 4. Coupled quantum wells and superlattices; Bloch oscillations 5. Quantum Hall effect 6. Mesoscopic transport, Landauer formula and its applications 7. Components based on semiconductor heterostructures |
