Aim: The course will introduce optical and electronic properties of semiconductors in the bulk as well as in the form of two-dimensional quantum wells and superlattices, one-dimensional quantum wires and zero-dimensional quantum dots. Particular emphasis will be put on dynamical properties and nonlinear optical properties. The course will give entry to experimental projects on ultrafast laser spectroscopy of semiconducting materials and nanostructures. |
Contents: 1. Basic concepts in crystals. 2. Basic concepts in optics. 3. Linear optical properties of (low-dimensional) semiconductors: electron-hole pairs and excitons. 4. Electro-optical properties of semiconductors. 5. Nonlinear optical properties: electron-hole plasmas, biexcitons. 6. Dynamical properties, femtosecond spectroscopy. 7. Optical devices and applications. |
