Aim: To give the participants a general knowledge of practical applications of organic synthesis and to improve their ability to reason independently and professionally. To expand the knowledge of technically and biologically important compounds. |
Contents: Principles and methods for the formation of C-C and C=C bonds are dealt with keeping practical application in mind. The importance of stereochemistry for chemical reactions are emphasised and illustrated. New concepts and reactions are introduced, including pericyclic reactions, conjugated addition of carbanions to unsaturated compounds, retrosynthesis, protecting groups, and rearrangements. The knowledge of the subject is expanded with technically biologically important compounds, including polynuclear aromatic and heterocyclic compounds. |
