Aim: To enable the participants to choose and to optimise chromatographic methods for the analysis of complicated mixtures of organic compounds in conjunction with mass spectrometry and possibly NMR-spectroscopy. |
Contents: An introduction to the theory of gas and liquid chromatography. Manufacturing and testing of columns for analytical and preparative purposes, separation, structure determination and quantification of small amounts of organic substances in complicated mixtures: gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry in connection with a computer and liquid chromatography in connection with Fourier transform 1H NMR.The samples may be derived from current problems in research projects at the Department, isolation of natural products, industrial processes, and environmental investigations. Methods for extraction and pretreatment of samples (e.g. small amounts of organic matter in air or aqueous solution) are assessed and practiced. |
