Aim: To use and further develop the participants¿ highschool level of French, and to provide the largest possible connection between the participants¿ technical studies and the French language area. |
Contents: The course is based on a contents oriented language education with extensive use of texts and tapes. The idea is to obtain knowledge of specific topics through read texts, written assignments and discussions using solely French sources.
In the beginning of the course, basic French grammar will be brushed up (inflexion, word order) based on concrete exercises. The rest of the course deals with work of different topics, which the participants to a certain degree can select themselves. All the topics will address actual French social conditions.
Each afternoon session requires that the participants work with different topics (from newspaper articles, radio programs, etc) and present as well as evaluate the topic, either in speaking or in writing. If possible, own experiences in the specific area should be used in the evaluation. Evaluation of the performance will primarily be based on the ability to comprehend the read or heard study material, and the ability to express a piece of information in a comprehensive way. The secondary goal is linguistic perfection; only mistakes which disturbs the context will be corrected.
Final test: Each participant will receive a text (typically a newspaper article), which address topics previously discussed during the semester. Within a week a small written assignment presenting and evaluating the essential of the text, must be prepared. In the following oral examination, the participants present the ideas behind the text in a French conversation form. |
