52263 Tecno-Economic Analysis of Telenetworks and Services
Danish title: Tekno-økonomisk analyse af telenet- og tjenester

Type: Å, Language: E
Credit points: 5 point
Offered by: Department of Telecommunication (TELE)
Prerequisite: 52251
Recommended semester: 7th - 9th semester
Scope and form: Lectures and group work.
Examination: Evaluation of report(s) (13 point scale )
Contact person: Morten Falch, TELE, Building 371, Tel. +45 4525 5177
Aim: To teach the students how to calculate cost based tariffs for telecommunication services. The course will introduce different approaches to network dimensioning on basis of expected demand, introduce different concepts of costs and provide an overview of the most important cost components in a telecommunication network.
Contents: The course will introduce the participant to the theoretical problems related to the evaluation of costs delivering a teleservice. These costs depend both on the demand for capacity of a specified service and the possibilities of sharing facilities with other activities etc. The course will state various methods of optimizing and dimensioning the teleservice. In this connection the different targets of the net load of the services will be discussed and various techniques for measuring the load of the individual user will be read.

Further, the course will give an introduction to the different components of costs in a teleservice, and introduce several methods of dividing these costs between different types of activity. The concepts as marginal- and average costs are going to be introduced and employed. The course will take up the different principles of pricing the users and the consequences on their behaviour and the total demand.
Group work will start by examining an actual case - e.g. from a public or private network service.
