Aim: To provide students with a knowledge concerning the formal and informal processes that lead to the establishment of standards in the telecommunication area. |
Contents: The course deals with the standardisation processes with an emphasis on telecommunication: Both de jure standards elaborated/ confirmed in standardisation organisations and de facto standards that more informally have been set through; the changing character of standardisation work related to the transition from monopoly to competition in network and service delivery in the telecommunication area; standardisation organisations, CEPT, ITU-T, ISO, CEN/ CENELEC, ETSI, etc. And de facto standards, including TCP/IP based standards. The course includes both technical and social science dimensions. The course focuses on the standardisation processes and not on the standards themselves and is relevant for other technological areas than telecommunication. |
