Aim: To enable the student to analyse and design combined telecommunication networks, e.g. telephone networks and data networks, with emphasis on switching. The aim is to explain the function of switching systems (exchanges) based on computer control (program-controlled exchanges) and switching systems based on digital switching elements (integrated digital exchanges). |
Contents: Elementary theory of telecommunication traffic, switching elements, networks design, numbering, signaling systems, conventional automatic exchanges, stored-programme-controlled exchanges, integrated digital exchanges, ATM technology and OSI model. |
