Aim: Traineing the mathematical way of thinking. Enable the students to use mathematical methods in solving technical problems.
The student should be able to:
a. calculate the length of a curve and the curvature for vectorfunctions in the plane and the space.
b. calculate Taylor approximations for elementary functions.
c. solve systems of linear equations with a discussion of the multiplicity of the solution. Calculate determinants, inverse matrices and to set up orthogonal matrices in connection with changes in coordinate systems.
d. calculate eigenvalues and eigenvectors for a matrix and to set up similar matrices in connection with diagonalisation.
e. find the nature and position of conics given by quadratic eauations. |
Contents: a. Vector functions. Length of curve and curvature
b. Taylorseries and elementary functions.
c. Matrices and linear equations. Determinants and ranking of matrices.
d. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Similar matrices and diagonalisations.
e. Reduction of quadratic forms. Coordinate transformations and conics. |
