Aim: To give the students an understanding of ideas and methods in operational research. To enable the students to use simulating software (PROMODEL) with a view to solving decisional problems in connection with the logistical flow in a production company. In connection with a concrete problem, the studnets should be able to:
1) formulate the problem operationally and set system limits
2) validate the feasibility of using a simulation model to solve the problem
3) program a simulation model
4) decide on a strategy for using the model
5) use the model according to the chosen strategy
6) interpret the results
7) recommend decisions on the basis of the results
8) write a report outlining the accomplished work, including model validation and documentation. |
Contents: During the semester, the students will work with three problems as delinated by the list above. For their final examination, the students will work with a problem as above. |
