Aim: To introduce the students to the possibilities in concrete and masonry construction, and to make the students capable of designing elementary structural elements and joints in concrete and masony related to real life structures.
Contents: Concrete is introduced as a structural material with several important properties. Reinforced concrete structures are treated in the service - as well as the ultimate limit state. Design of beams subjected to pure bending, bending with normal force and shear. Columns, plates, foundations and multispan beams are treated. Detailing of concrete structures. Prestressed concrete in the ultimate limit state. The strength and deformability of masonry as well as design of masonry structures are treated.
