Aim: To enable the students a) to use simple principles of semiconductor physics in order to analyse very fast transistors that are used in digital circuits in monolithic integrated form; b) to analyse and design ultra-fast, digital and integrated circuits, that can work at data speeds higher than 1Gbit/s; c) to analyse and design fast, digital circuits for ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) applications in broadband communications (broadband electronics); d) to take part in research work on design and application of monolithic integrated circuits for optical communications and ATM.
Contents: Design of GaAs integrated circuits, including MESFET, HEMT, HBT, SPICE models, noise margin, yield, logic gates, logic families, circuit examples and interconnections. Design of Si integrated circuits for optical communication. Design of fast digital circuits for ATM applications by use of VHOL (Very High speed integrated circuits hardware Description Language). Examples from research at the institute.
