| Aim: To give the student a practical acquaintance with different machines, which play an important role in energy conversion. The operational characteristics of the machines and the physical reasons behind these characteristics are studied through a combination of lectures, experiments and simulations. An important element is to show the relationship between experimental measurements and computer simulations. This is done by writing a simple simulation for a few devices, and using available simulations for others. |
Contents: Lectures: Simulation goals, limitations methodology. Theoretical principles, use, and operating characteristics for these machines.
Experiments: Compressors, Piston Engines and Vehicles.
Simulation: Development of a simple simulation program for a piston engine. Use of exting programs for simulation of other machines. |
