Aim: To give the student an understanding of mechanical vibrations, to enable him/her to solve practical problems concerning vibrations in mechanical constructions and to provide a solid foundation for further studies of dynamic problems.
Contents: Vibrations of linear systems with one degree of freedom. Lagrange's equations. Vibrations in linear systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom. Equations of motion of continuous systems. Rayleigh's method for continuous systems. The principle of comparison. Inverse iteration. Rayleigh-Ritz' method. Galerkin's equations. Transverse vibrations of beams. Longitudinal vibrations. Torsional vibrations. Critical speed of rotation. Transient vibrations in continuous systems.
