Aim: The student are made aware of, and reflect on the machine engineer's role and tasks in professional work, and with it their own situation and challenges in the study. This aim can be reached through dialogue between practising engineers, and other people in relation to Danish industry.
Contents: 4 themes are discussed in the course:
1. Technology development. The social consequences of the technology development also seen in a historical perspective and the relation between technology development and company creation.
2. Engineer's role and tasks. Types of engineer's roles, interplay between the company's functional areas and engineers tasks, the technical qualifications of the engineer.
3. The company and its relations to the environment. The financial, the environment, and the ethical accounts.
4. Career run. The non-technical qualificatons, and the professional engineer. Personal development, cultural challenges, permanent education.

Every theme will be build up considering contributions from practising engineers and other people in relation to Danish industry, followed by prepared questions from the students. There will be four compulsory tasks crosswise of the four themes. Two tasks are solved in groups, two individually.
