Previous course: C8105/06/01
Offered by: Department of Control and Engineering Design (IKS)
Recommended semester: 3rd semester

Remarks: The course is part of the Mechanical Preliminary Course and only Mechanical Preliminary Course student can attend the course. The course lasts two terms (semesters)
Contact person: Claus Thorp Hansen, IKS, Building 358, Tel. +45 4525 6273
Aim: To enable the student to set about and complete a design project in a systematic way with a good possibility of reaching a reasonable result.
Contents: The course deals with the phases of problem solving: Problem analysis, including need concepts, gathering of information, concepts of classification, design specification, product requirements and desirable properties. Search for solutions, including creative and systematic generation of ideas. Application of design models. Evaluation of alternative solutions. Project work. During the laboratory part the student practise engineering design in project groups on the basis of formulated need (the groups can choose to formulate a need themselves). At the end of the course, each group presents and reports their work. The group report represents approximately one half of the basis for evaluation (the other being a written examination).
