72406 Synthesis of Technical Systems
Danish title: Syntese af tekniske systemer

Type: Language: D
Credit points: 5 point
Offered by: Department of Control and Engineering Design (IKS)
Prerequisite: 72221. 72601 (eller andet PMP)
Recommended semester: 7th - 9th semester
Examination: Evaluation of report(s) (13 point scale )
Contact person: M. Myrup Andreasen, IKS, Building 358, Tel. +45 4525 6258
Aim: Understanding technical system's (TS) role for covering needs, their development and life cycle. Understanding TS's structural characteristics and their relation to properties and quality. Understand the relation between TS's nature and structure and contents of the design process. Enable the student to use the theory of technical systems for solving of structuring and classification tasks.
Contents: The following aspects of TS and the synthesis of TS are treated:

- System theory, domain theory, model theory, models for synthesis.
- Proberty theory, proberty models, quality, quality determining characteristics.
- Design systematic, classification, morphology.
- TS's structure, principles of structuring, configuration, variety, kinship.
- The evolution of products, synthesis and life cycle.
- Procedures and approaches in design, design types.
- Methodology for synthesis and its relation to TS's theory.
- Modelling in synthesis work (property modelling, visualisation, prototypes).
- Theories of special machine areas, design principles.
- Product modelling, knowledge data bases.

The course is partly lectures, partly afternoon exercises with several short group exercises for training models and methods.

A project on selected themes from this course may be arranged in the frames of 72401 Engineering Design Projects.
