Aim: To enable the students to work with large-scale problems in mathematical modelling and make their own implementation on high-performance computers. |
Contents: Introduction to high-performance computers (work-stations, vector and parallel computers) emphasizing those aspects that are important in connection with numerical computations on lage data sets. Case-studies in scientific computing, related to activities on IMM, illustrating the relations between mathematical modelling, algorithm development, and computer implementation for large-scale problems. Image deblurring by means of the conjugate gradient algorithm; solution of Poisson problems be means of the multigrid method; parallel programming with MPI; parallel 2-D wavelet transforms. |
