| Aim: To describe acceptable, appropriate and affordable systems for total sanitation of towns and urban areas, with maximum recovery of materials and minimum loss of resources as plant nutrients in synergy with surrounding agriculture. |
Contents: The mail elements are:
- The waste and sanitation problems in industrialised and developing regions. Typical generation pattern for waste (human excreta, solid waste, waste water, industrial waste).
- Flow pattern analysis for materials, and conservation of resources as decision tools in environmental engineering and sanitation programmes.
- Unit operations and processes in waste generation, collection, treatment and disposal. Focus on low cost, low environmental impact, high recycling options, and the entire sanitation capability and capacity.
- Interaction with other segments of society, with focus on rural-urban co-operation.
- Operation, co-operation and limiting elements in sanitation systems.
- Economy, social acceptability and political realities in creating and running entire sanitation systems. |
