Aim: To give an introductioon to informatioon technology for the network organisation, or the virtual organisation. The course will introduce the student to theoretical and empirical studies of the network organisation, and the basis for development and use of the enabling IT technologies. |
Contents: The internet technology has injected new scopes into development of distributed IT, and one important new scope is the development of systems for communication and co-ordination within networked organisations. Distributed IT systems may have an important role to play in the evolution of new forms of organisations, provided they are designed to match the needs of these organisations.
The course will address the following aspects of IT for the virtual organisation:
- Theories and empirical studies of the networked organisation
- Forms of co-operation within the networked organisation, from idea- and product development to the supply chain management
- Theories and case studies of IT-support of networked organisations
- Discussion of the particular problems with development and use of information systems covering various more or less independent organisations
- Approaches to analysis of networked organisations and methods for design of enabling technologies. |
