Aim: To give the students a basis of introducing new materials and processes into industrial companies.
Contents: Introduction: Going through examples of project reports. Searvching for new project ideas. Examples of new materials and processes: Fibre reinforced plastic, Engineering ceramics, Powder Metallurgy, Hars coatings on tools, New surface treatment processes, Rapid prototyping technologies, Laser cutting, Electrical discharge machining, Electroforming, Water-jet machining, Galvano technique, Cold forging, Super plastic forming, gasinjection moulding of plastic comonents, outsert technique, plating of plastic.
Models/methods for systematic description of fundamental material and process properties. Computer aided material and process selection. Technology planning and forecasting. Introduction of new materials and processes into a company (specification of the project, implementation, commission and follow up).
The project work consist of a self-selected subject approved by the teacher.
